Context Awareness
Intelligently adapt transcription based on the applications you're using
Amical detects which app you're using and formats your dictation to match. An email gets professional formatting. A Slack message stays casual. Notes get structured with bullet points.
How It Works
Amical identifies the active app using native bundle IDs on desktop and browser URL pattern matching for web apps. Based on the detected app, it applies category-specific formatting rules during the AI post-processing step.
App Categories
Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, Yahoo Mail, Proton Mail, Fastmail, Spark, and other email clients.
- Preserves greeting/body/closing structure when present
- Professional tone with paragraph breaks between topics
- Maintains the sender's level of formality
Chat
Slack, Discord, Teams, WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, ChatGPT, Claude, and other messaging apps.
- Conversational tone, kept concise
- Preserves emoji and emoticons
- Uses dashes and commas for natural pauses instead of formal paragraph breaks
Notes
Notion, Apple Notes, Google Docs, Evernote, OneNote, Obsidian, Roam Research, Drafts, and other note-taking apps.
- Structured with headings, bullet points, and numbered lists
- Action items formatted clearly
- Concise, scannable phrasing
Coding
Cursor, VS Code, terminals, and other development tools.
- Formatted as code prompts or technical communication
Default
Any unrecognized app gets light cleanup: filler word removal, grammar fixes, and proper punctuation.
Detection
Context detection is automatic — there's nothing to configure. Amical reads the active app when you start dictating and applies the appropriate formatting rules.
